3 Policemen, others injured in Ibadan as miscreants unleash terror
By;  BAYO AKAMO, Ibadan.
No fewer than three Policemen were injured in Apata area of Ibadan when suspected miscreants on Tuesday unleashed terror on part of the community during which innocent passersby were attacked and injured.
It was learnt that the mayhem reared its head when one of the suspected miscreants reportedly bought a mobile telephone from an Igbo trader in the area only for him to later discover that the telephone was not in good condition.
The man was said to have rushed back to return the telephone but that the trader refused to accept it claiming that the said telephone was purchased in good condition by the man, a situation which forced the man to mobilise youths in the area armed with charms and dangerous weapons.
New Nigerian gathered that the invasion of the area by the armed youths heightened the tension in the area between the Igbo traders and the suspected miscreants alleged of always collecting illegal ‘settlement’ money from the traders as well as from commercial drivers in the area.
Eye witness account said the area was enveloped in fear as attack from the miscreants continued until the arrival of Policemen from the Apata division of the Oyo State Police command.
It was gathered further that the three Policemen sustained injury in their bid to send the miscreant away from the troubled area .
Confirming the story, the Oyo State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, blamed the mayhem on the illegal money the miscreants were collecting from commercial drivers in the Apata community.
DSP Ajisebutu while warning miscreants and other troublemakers to stay away from Oyo state as they will be fished out, arrested and prosecuted, said, “there was complaint against some ‘agberos’ in the area which led to the trouble. We have deployed policemen to the area to restore order”.
