3 arrested over the killing of Ooni’s security officer

Three suspects have been arrested over the killing of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer attached to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi by yet to be identified gunmen.
New Nigerian gathered that the NSCDC officer identified as simply as Marcus was shot dead on Sunday night at the private residence of Ooni Ogunwusi located in Parakin area of Ile-Ife few minutes after returning to the entrance to the Ooni’s private residence from where he had gone to buy airtime for his telephone.
It was learnt that the yet to be identified gunmen
suspected to be armed robbers returning from an operation neither attacked the Ooni’s private residence nor robbed any of the occupants around the area, escaped with the NSCDC officer’s rifle.
Other NSCDC men at the residence were said to had, on hearing a gunshot, reportedly rushed out while the gunmen hurriedly flee the area.
All efforts by the other NSCDC men to rescue Marcus failed as he was confirmed dead on getting to the hospital where he was rushed to by his colleagues.
NSCDC Head, Public Relations Unit in Osun state, Mr. Wale Folarin, while confirming the killing of Marcus by the gunmen, said “it is true that one of our officers attached to the Ooni’s palace was shot dead by some unidentified persons. He was shot in front of a private residence of the Ooni. His killers went away with his gun and he died at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife.”
Mr Folarin added that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing of Marcus while investigation is on going on circumstances surrounding the matter.
