28 Kaduna Schools Participate In Late Philip Adegbile Football Championship


Twenty-eight secondary schools are participating in the Kaduna Centre of the 2016 edition of the Late Dr. Philip Adegbile Memorial Inter Secondary Schools  Football Championship, as it kicks off at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Monday.
This was disclosed by the Secretary of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Kaduna State Chapter, Malam Abdulrazak Usman.
According to him, the schools are drawn from three zones in Kaduna metropolis; Sabon Tasha, Kaduna and Rigachikun.
Malam Usman said that the competition was organized by YSFON in collaboration with the family of late Adegbile, in line with the Federal Government’s policy thrust of grassroots sports development.
When asked why the competition was organized in honour of Adegbile, he explained that it was as a result of his tremendous contributions to the development of sports during his life time.
“We are doing this to immortalize late Adegbile because of his contributions to sports development. We want others to emulate him, knowing that even when they have passrd on, people will remember their good deeds,” he added.
The YSFON Secretary emphasized that competitions like this have produced international sportsmen in the recent past.
“YSFON has been at the forefront of organizing sporting competitions for children in and out of school, with the aim of discovering talented sportsmen that would soon make Nigeria proud,” he added.
In his welcome address, Kaduna YSFON Chairman, Honourable Iliya Ruga  appreciated Grays International College, Kaduna for reviving the championship after some years break.
“I also want to commend the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Kaduna State, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok for giving express approval to enable schools participate in this championship,” Ruga, who was represented by Alhaji Abdulgafar Agboola, said.
