2,627 Policemen for Edo Guber election

No fewer than 23,000 personnel of the Nigerian Police, comprising officers and the rank and file, ‎would be deployed to man the 2,627 polling units across Edo state for the September 10 governorship election.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Joshak Habila‎, stated this in Benin City while speaking on the readiness of the police for the Edo gubernatorial election.
He disclosed that a total of 1,152 hilux vans and 54 coastal buses would be provided to convey the police personnel to their various duty posts across the 18 local ‎government areas of the state.
He further stated that marine police would cover the riverine areas, stating that flash points had been “crime-mapped and geo-located for additional security.
“The IG is very passionate about the success of this election. You must be apolitical. The success of this election depends on you. Do not allow anything to deceive you not to do the right thing.
“Patrol vehicles will be placed as such that response will be swift. Whosever causes trouble will be dealt with according to the law”, he said.‎

Speaking earlier, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, Kolawole Sodipo urged the officers to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
