OGSG names Model School, Housing Estate after HID Awolowo

Ogun State Government today immortalised the late Yeye Oodua, Mama HID Awolowo by naming one of the Model Schools being built by the Ibikunle Amosun led administration as well as a housing estate after the matriarch of the Awolowo family.
The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun made the announcement in his keynote address delivered at the Ogun Day celebration of Mama HID held at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu in Sagamu local government area of the state.
Speaking before eminent dignitaries, sons and daughters of the state which included former Head of Interim National Government (ING), Chief Ernest Sonekan, Wife of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dolapo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo among others, Amosun said that the Model School located in Ikenne and the Plainfield Estate located in the Oke-Mosan area of Abeokuta metropolis are part of the edifice named after Mama Awolowo.
The governor further explained that the State Executive Council (SEC) during its meeting, came to the conclusion that one of the best ways through which the state could immortalise Mama Awolowo is to sustain the ideals and philosophy which the duo of late Pa Obafemi Awolowo and his wife, Mama HID stood for, hence, the naming of the educational edifice after her.
Amosun, who emphasized that Mama HID stood solidly behind her husband throughout the period of her political travails, however charged womenfolk throughout the country whose husbands are in politics today to emulate the virtues of the late Yeye Oodua, Mama HID.
“We should imbibe her ideals, selfless service and love for humanity because it is the greatest legacy we can leave for mama. We should copy all the good virtues, values and attributes of Mama HID because that is the way to honour her and also make her happy in grave”.
Amosun further declared that the late sage, Pa Obafemi Awolowo would also be happy too if the state, as well as her entire citizens can sustain the legacy of selfless service to humanity and good virtue which Mama Awolowo left behind.
The governor also stated that Mama HID played a vital role, not only for the Awolowo family, but the entire Yoruba race.
Responding to the state government’s gesture, the eldest daughter of the Awolowo family, Rev. Omotola Oyediran said the show of love by the federal and state governments as well as other eminent Nigerians, demonstrated the appreciation of what Pa and Mama HID did for the country.
Reverend Oyediran promised that the biological children left behind by the late sage and his wife would always have Nigerians and the country at heart, stressing that they would not disappoint them.
Among other eminent Nigerians who joined thousands of sons and daughters of Ogun state to celebrate the live and time of Mama HID Awolowo are; former National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his wife, Bisi, First Lady of Kwara State, Mrs. Ahmed.
Others included the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in 2011, Gen. Tunji Idowu Olurin (Rtd), Chief Ayo Adebanjo among others.
