Twenty four  students and a porter  with the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo were on Wednesday, arraigned before an Oyo State Magistrate court sitting in Ibadan over the  alleged killing of an undergraduate student of the university.

The 25  suspects were charged before the court by the Police for conspiracy to  murder a 22-year old undergraduate identified as Mr. Jeffrey Akro.

Arraigning the suspects, Police Prosecutor, CSP Funke Fawole said the 22 years old student was allegedly tortured to death by the suspects on Monday May 24, 2024 at the Institution campus, Oyo.

She disclosed that Jeffrey Akro was allegedly beaten to death with planks and wire while a male porter identified as Kehinde Olabusuyi failed in his responsibility to rescue the deceased from the enraged students.

CSP Fawole said the offences contravene Sections 516 and 324 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, did not take the pleas of the arraigned suspects for want of jurisdiction.

Magistrate Ogunkanmi directed the police to return the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and then  adjourned the case till July 8 for mention.
