A coalition of Wukari Elders on Monday, called for support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate in Taraba State, Col. Agbu Kefas Agbu (rtd) ahead of next year’s general election.
The elders who addressed a press conference in Wukari, also pleaded with former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Sen. Joel Danlami Ikenya who recently dumped the PDP to reconsider his decision and back his brother Agbu Kefas to win the governorship election.
Chief Angyu Bako who spoke on behalf of the elders, urged Sen. Joel Danlami Ikenya to put the interests of the Wukari federation above his personal political interests.
“Over the years the people of Wukari have stood strongly with Senator Joel Ikenya. We have supported all his political aspirations which took him to the Senate.
“It is time Joel Ikenya supports another Wukari’s finest to rise politically. We will not watch any politician from Wukari scuttle our opportunity to produce a governor for Taraba State.
“This is a golden opportunity for Wukari to showcase another of its brightest to Taraba and the world. To this end, all hands must be on deck to achieve this. The people of Wukari must unite to support the PDP governorship candidate to emerge victorious at the general polls.
“On this note, we want to appeal to Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and give all support to the party’s governorship candidate.
“Ikenya should lead in the campaign in ensuring that the PDP comes out victorious at the general elections in Taraba,” the group appealed.
The group while recalling how Agbu Kefas has touched many lives irrespective of clans and religious inclination, Bako said Agbu Kefas initiated and founded Wukari Peace Development Forum and financed the forum to restore peace in Wukari.
According to the elders, Agbu Kefas paid full tuition fees of more than 200 youth in Kwararafa University who are today graduates contributing positively to the growth of the state and country.
The forum described Agbu Kefas as humble, intelligent, humane, accessible, righteous God-fearing, honest, decent and well educated with the capacity to lead.
