His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III has while looking ahead of the 2023 electioneering campaign and the scramble for power by politicians, called on politicians to play the game according to its rules.
Sultan Abubakar III also tasked politicians to be fearful about the day they will meet their creator on all  their political activities or perpetration, saying “Allah decides who he wants to be what, as all came to this temporal world by the will of Allah.
The Sultan was speaking at the weekend, during the closing ceremony of the 36th National Quranic Recitation Competition ‘MUSABAQA’ in Bauchi, where he said that the occasion is also an opportunity for them as leaders to tell the whole country on the need for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians, irrespective of religious differences.
“As Muslim leaders, I want ask our brothers who are not Muslims to always respect all our views, respect one another, because as Muslims as Christians, and at whatever religion one think to possess, Allah decides who want to be what, because we all came to this world by the will of Allah”
Sultan, whose office in conjunction with the Othman Dan-Fodio University, Sokoto organizes the annual competition,  in 1986 when it started, emphasized the need for Nigerians to have respect for one another, adding, “I want to assure you all that as leaders we would continue to do whatever we think is right to help this country achieve peace and stability, progress and development”
He also urged governors and other political leaders to also reach out to all citizens to see how they can help them because, as religious and traditional leaders, they don’t have any political power, but rather have the people with them, stressing “We care for the common man on the street, more than we care for ourselves”.
“We will continue to work for the people and Insha Allah this country will be much better than it is now, so I call on all citizens once more to live in peace with one another, to be law-abiding, I call on the political leaders to fear Almighty Allah in all their activities, and I believe the Almighty Allah will judge us on that day on what we have done here in the world”.
On the approach of the Ramadan fast, the Sultan called on market people to instead of rising, reduce the prices of foodstuff and other essential commodities to get the blessing of Allah during the fasting period and even beyond, “I think is left to all of us and the authorities, whether is local, state or federal, so that we can work together to bring rising prices of commodities to reasonable or affordable levels where all of us can have a successful Ramadan with ease”
“I want use this medium to call on market people who buy and sell or produces things to be fearful of what Almighty Allah will ask them when they get to him on the day of judgment. Instead of increasing the prices of foodstuff and other basic needs of live, please try to reduce them to get the blessing of Allah”.
The Sultan called on government at all levels, federal, states, and local to devise methods, ways and means of reducing the cost of living in the country, saying the cost of living and cost of foodstuff are too high, “So governments must do something to have this very serious challenge tackle”.
Governor Bala Mohammed has while speaking, commended the roles played by faith based organizations to promote learning and recitation of the Holy Qur’an, as well as traditional rulers, Centre for Islamic studies of UDUS and the organizers for the successful hosting of the event in Bauchi.
He said that the competition should not be seen as an opportunity to win prices by the contestants, but rather to memorize and recite the Qur’an for it is necessary to put into practice all the verses written in the Qur’an as instructed by Allah.
“You will agree with me that the World today is faced with numerous challenges ranging from material and moral corruption, intellectual bankruptcy, insecurity and other social abnormalities. This state of affairs is threatening the socio-economic and the various parts of the World as a planet that is worth living in”.
He therefore called on all God-fearing Muslims, especially the respected Ulamas to intensify prayers at all times and places against banditry, insecurity and other social vices so that we will not be in this kind of messes we all have found ourselves in.
The Governor charged leaders at all levels to live by the fear of God, and called on parents and guardians to ensure proper upbringing of their children, noting that the society requires serious moral orientation as most of the challenges bedeviling the nation are associated with the attitude of people.
A number of 328 participants across the 36 states and FCT Abuja contested in this year’s national annual Qur’anic recitation competition hosted by the Bauchi state government, out of which 168 were males and 160 females.
Sanyinna Abba Goni Mukhtar from Borno state emerged overall winner in the male category of the competition while Haulatu Amina Ishaq from Zamfara state emerging the overall winner in the female category and were christened ‘Gwani’ and ‘Gwana’ of the annual event where each of the two bagged a price of N3 million.
Highlight of the annual event staged in Bauchi was the adaption of a female participant from Bauchi, Sumayya by the Sultan Muhammad Abubakar 111 to pursuit her education up to the University level.

I was there yesterday with President Buhari at the congregation of mosque in Abuja before coming here and the Imam made the same comment with the president in the most with us, and I think is left to all of us and the authorities, whether is local, state or federal, so that we can work together to bring rising prices of commodities to reasonable level, or affordable level where all of us can have a successful Ramadan with ease, and I believe its not too much to ask from our govt.”
