The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Northern Elders have said that  media reports that some Northern Elders of the party have shortlisted two prominent and deserving aspirants as PDP consensus presidential candidates as fictitious, malaise and unfounded.
In the text of a press briefing, issued and signed on behalf of the Northern Elders of the party, former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido said that what was reported in the media was a personal opinion of those who issued the statement.
“it wasn’t a unanimous decision, nor stance of the Northern members of the party,” the statement said.
The press conference which was at the instance of Lamido at his Bamaina residential apartment,  said they “viewed with concern how a crop of mischievous king makers could fabricate an unguarded statement, full of malaise and fictitious.
” Having widely consulted party leaders across the 19 Northern states, and the FCT, it is hereby stated to our  party members and the general public, that what was reported by the media is only the personal opinion of those who issued the statement”
They  further said that, “discussions are ongoing with all the aspirants in our party with a view to having a national consensus, if possible, or working towards having a smooth acrimony free national convention.”
The elders added that,  “the position of the Northern Elders is not only injurious to the North but equally injurious to the Northern aspirants.”

The meeting was chaired by former Jigawa State Governor, Alh. Sule Lamido and was attended by Northern caucus of the opposition PDP.
