The lawmaker representing Iseyin/ Itesiwaju/Kajola/ Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller is optimistic that the new Electoral Act  signed by President Muhammadu Buhari will sanitize the nation’s political terrain.

Hon Peller who said this at the weekend during a chat with journalists in Iseyin, said that there will be no room for rigging and electoral violence in the 2023 general elections.

According to Hon Peller, the new Electoral Act will make it difficult for politicians to rig elections in 2023 and avoid any form of violence during elections.

Emphasizing that the new electoral act will make it difficult for politicians to rig elections the way it was done in the past, Hon Peller hinted  that the electoral act will help to reduce violence in 2023 contrary to what was experienced in previous elections.

“The electoral act that we have now, the amended electoral act is already promoting free and fair election devoid of violence because where you witness violence in election is when people want to carry or snatch ballot boxes and this time around, due to electronic transmission of results, it will be very difficult”, he said.

Hon Peller added, ” I believed that it will reduce violence and also people themselves should see that it is time for us to do things right this time around in 2023. We must look beyond top to bottom, top to bottom in Nigeria is a disaster”.

“Everybody should wake up and understand that if you have good candidate across 19 political parties as electorate we should try as much as possible to give them the opportunity to bring the best.”

Speaking further, the lawmaker pointed out that it is very important for the citizens to work together to give Nigeria the best leadership that the country requires in 2023, adding, ” one of the obligations of the House of Representatives is the constituency outreach that is outside oversight functions and laws making” .

Stressing that constituency outreach is the ability to be able to facilitate projects that will make lives of the constituents better, Hon Peller said, ” it is very important for us as citizens to work together to give Nigeria the best leadership that the country requires. God has created Nigeria with so much resources, both human and natural resources but its unfortunate that these resources are not translating to best result basically because we have bad leaders. And the only time we have the opportunity to address the leadership of our country is when the country is transiting especially during election year which is going to happen in 2023″ .

According to Hon Peller, “it is everybody’s responsibility, God will not come down from heaven to rebuild Nigeria for us. Nobody will come from outside to do this for us, we can only get this done during the election period and if the electorate, we begin to speak to ourselves that its time for us to look at character and competence , then everybody will work together and elect great leaders .

“As you know, one of the important obligations of the House of Representatives is the constituency outreach that is outside oversight functions and making laws. So constituency outreach is the ability to be able to facilitate projects, that will make lives of the constituency better. So, here today we have been moving from one place to other commissioning projects”.
