Stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Tuesday, advocated adoption of direct primaries to choose candidates in the party for the 2023 general elections.
New Nigerian reliably gathered that the stakeholders are throwing their weight behind the direct primary option as the only way to save the party from defeat as it would ensure level playing field for all the aspirants.
According to sources within the party, as at present, it was learnt that  appeals have been made to the national leadership of the party to adopt the direct primary option, stating that anything to the contrary would spell doom for the party.
The sources stressed that considering the factional crisis  in the state, ” direct primary is the only option that would give the members a sense of belonging and opportunity to pick the candidates that would fly the banner of the party during the 2023 general elections.
“It is important to sound a note of warning in the interest of our party. Giving what is happening in the party presently, most members of the party in the state are rooting for the adoption of direct primary option to pick candidates in the party,” the sources said.
Our sources added, ” It is the only way that would bring peace to the state and help the party in winning the forthcoming elections.”
