Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has disclosed that he would only support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar if the party does the needful.
Featuring on during a live interview session on Fresh FM 105.9’s flagship programme, Political Circuit, Governor Makinde emphasized that he would only support Alhaji Atiku if the party demonstrate that it can ensure fairness and justice within its system before seeking to implement same on the nation.
The governor who was responding to a question on the crisis in PDP at the national level pitching him and four other PDP governors against the party leadership stressed that there is the need for the party’s leadership to listen to what the four governors were agitating for.
According to Gov Makinde, the crisis rocking the party arose from the failure of PDP leadership to respect the position of the Southern Governors Forum that the 2023 Presidency be zoned to the South.
He stressed that contrary to the position of the Southern Governor’s Forum, PDP Presidential candidate emerged from the Northern part of the country, hence the need for the position of the party’s National Chairman to move from the North to the South in the spirit of fairness.
The governor maintained that with the party’s Presidential candidate coming from the North, the sitting National Chairman of the party ought not to be from the same North if PDP is sincere with the restructuring of Nigeria been clamoured for by the party .
” All we are clamouring for is inclusiveness and unifying Nigerians. It is not about Seyi Makinde, not about Wike , but why should our Presidential candidate come from the North and the party Chairman from the same . If we talking of restructuring the country, let us demonstrate that we can unify Nigeria” he said.
The governor added, ” if they are not ready to listen to us , I will have to focus my campaign solely on my election in Oyo state. Those advising him not to listen to us are not helping him . We will record 100% in Oyo state “.
Speaking further, Governor Makinde pointed out that PDP as a party must demonstrate that it can ensure fairness and justice within its system before seeking to implement same on the nation.
Commenting on his second term reelection bid, he disclosed that his administration has been able to deliver accelerated development to the state in the last three and a half years and that his performance justifies his re-election bid.
The governor said with the achievements recorded by his administration across the four service point areas of education, security, health and economic expansion through agribusiness and infrastructure, he deserved to be re-elected by the people of the state.
According to him, if re-elected in 2023, he would go on to deliver Omituntun 2.0, which he said would centre on delivering sustainable development to the people of the state, saying, ” when I was campaigning for election in 2018, I brought out a roadmap and promised the people that it was meant for accelerated development of Oyo State. Now, based on what we have experienced, we have brought another roadmap, but this time round, it is for sustainable development 2023-2027.
