The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State has warned against the issue of filing Christian/Christian or Muslim/Muslim tickets by any political party in the 2023 general elections.
A statement issued by state Secretary of CAN, Rev. Ma’aji Caleb Bawa, said, “CAN, Kaduna State chapter, therefore, is saying that the issue of Christian/Christian ticket or Muslim/Muslim ticket should completely not be mentioned as such practice will not augur well for the unity of the state or country as the case may be.”
The chapter called on political parties to consider the diversity of the society by carrying all along to work as a team for the purpose of fair play, equity, justice and the love for one another as the best ingredient for any development of any society.
The statement added, “CAN, Kaduna State is calling on candidates to begin to see their election as combined efforts of Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion or section and above all, the will of the Almighty towards ensuring their successes. It is in this light that CAN, Kaduna state is appealing to them to ensure every section of the state and country is carried along for the interest of peace, unity and togetherness for the development of Nigeria.”
The chapter also thanked God for the successful completion of primary election of political parties in the country, saying that while CAN prayed to God for its success, the Almighty has answered their prayers and today Nigerians have candidates of all political parties that will go into the 2023 general elections.
CAN prayed, “It is our earnest prayer that the 2023 general elections will be a huge success that the Almighty in His infinite mercy choose for this country men of integrity to lead Nigeria to the path of glory in all ramifications.”
According to the statement, “As a body of believers, we will continue to pray for God’s mercy on Nigeria that He will give us leaders that will have the will to fight against all forces that are bringing challenges to killings, kidnapping, destruction of homes and communities in which most parts of the country are currently going through.”
CAN stated that the country deserves peace and orderliness so that Nigerians can go about their normal way of life of providing food to their families, lamenting that it is disheartening that killings in the country is no longer news and other forms criminality.
CAN opined that the practice is totally wrong and strongly against the very purpose that God Almighty created people to live in the world as human beings, saying that the country at this point deserves a true leadership that will restore sanity, give Nigerians a new breathing and the citizens new hope of living.
The statement suggested, “The truth is that we have all had enough of all forms of frustration and should be emancipated for absolute peace to be enshrine in the country.”
“While CAN earnestly pray for total restoration of the country, our leaders should be seen caring for the welfare of its citizens by exploring all ways to protect lives and properties irrespective of who and part of the state or country is affected,” the statement opined.
