You Are A Performer Who Has Not Failed Me, Obasanjo Hails Governor Emmanuel

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has described Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel as a trail-blazer whose performances in office have excited him.
President Obasanjo who stated this while inaugurating a one kilometre flyover in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Friday, lauded governor Emmanuel for bringing his wealth of experience in the banking sector to bear in the development of the state.
These achievements which he noted dotted the landscape of the state such as in infrastructure and human development, were achieved by the Governor inspite of the global economic meltdown, that caused states nationwide to make do with lean allocation accruing to its from the federation accounts.
According to ex President Obasanjo, Governor Emmanuel has not disappointed him and the people of Akwa Ibom in his performance which he further noted would remain enduring legacies in state now and in future.
“I am delighted to be part of this ceremony because Governor Udom Emmanuel my brother, is a performing and achieving Governor in Nigeria. In my speech today, I won’t hesitate to say to you, the Akwa Ibom people that when you have a horse that wins race for you, you don’t have to throw it away but keep to continue to win the race for you.
“A good manager is measured in time of scarce resources. Let me also tell you that there are opportunities in this country, the problem is when people cannot identify the opportunities, how can you use them.
“Your Governor, Udom Emmanuel I can boldly say, has not disappointed me and you, the people of this state. From my analysis of his performances and achievements as the Governor, he has brought his wealth of experience he gathered as a banker to bear in the development of this state. Therefore as a people, you are lucky to have Udom as your Governor, especially at this period of scarcity everywhere.
“I charged you all to continue to support and show him love in order to encourage him to do more for the state”, Chief Obasanjo said.
He also charged the people of the state, especially the youth on the need to own government projects in their various domains by protecting them from vandals.
On Governor Emmanuel succession’s plan, the former President expressed optimism that the success would be measured on the great feats he has recorded in the state within his tenure in office as the Governor.
He urged people of the state to rally round the Governor to produce a good successor in office, stressing that without good successor, succession efforts will be a follow.
He prayed to God to bless Governor Emmanuel and make him a fountain of blessings for Akwa Ibom people and Nigeria at large.
Earlier, governor Udom Emmanuel in his speech said that the inauguration of the flyover was not just a celebration of success but of wisdom, creativity and idea that God has bestowed on human being and used them to do massive thing in the face of adversities.
Governor Emmanuel said that his administration’s decision to construct the flyover was taken on the daring need to check the frequent accidents on the Ikot Oku Ikono roundabout linking Abak/Uyo Road and Etinan/Idoro Roads, which in many cases claimed lives and property.
The Governor warned the youth against vandalizing public infrastructure located in the area, but charged them to own and protect them in order to serve the need and huge investment that government has invested in those projects for an improved life.
He however assured of his administration continued commitment to transforming the state and create wealth for all.
But he reiterated government earlier stance that, “Any community in the state that obstruct government contractors from executing government projects sited in their area, will have such project taken away from such community to a peaceful area”.
The Regional Manager of Julius Bergers, the construction firm that handled the flyover project, Mr Fish thanked the Akwa Ibom government for the confidence entrusted in his company to do the work, saying that the company would continue to build on the existing relationships to its best for state when called upon.
He also thanked the host community of Ikot Oku Ikono for their support and peaceful disposition throughout the construction period, saying that the flyover will not check the traffic excesses in Uyo Capital territory but would contribute to the development of the state.
New Nigerian in Uyo has observed that the One kilometre flyover project was initiated and executed by Governor Emmanuel with contract awarded in late 2019 to Julius Bergers Construction, world giant in bridge and road constructions.
