Former Governor of Anambra State; Mr. Peter Obi was on Thursday detaiined for three hours at the Bridgehead Onitsha, Anambra State by illegal revenue collectors.
Obi who narrated his ordeal to jounalists at his Onitsha residence, described the experience as horrible.
He said, “I was passing through the Bridgehead in the morning where I experienced over 3 hours of traffic.
“Out of curiosity, I came down from my vehicle only to behold different groups extorting money from people.
“Apart from causing traffic delays, they constitute a menace to the travelling public, businesses and people’s sources of livelihood, not mentioning the countless hours lost to umproductivity at such hot spot. These extortionists pose a serious serious security tgreat to society.”
The former Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP called on the state government to employ urgent measures to flush out all illegal groups hiding under the clove of government to cause problems for people at a time when Nigerians were passing through hardship.
He also called on those engaged in the illegal acts to rethink and amend their ways rather than harassing those that are making honest effort to eke a living.
