Akwa Ibom Govt Threatens To Shutdown Hospitality Places, Others Over Criminality

The Akwa Ibom State Government has said that it will shut down hotels and other entertainment centers in the state linked with cult and criminal activities.
Information and Strategy Commissioner, Mr. Ini Ememobong in a statement signed onThursday, said that the decision was informed by credible intelligence that hotel owners and proprietors of entertainment centers have given their premises to cult groups and other criminal gangs to use as their base.
He said that government through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and security agencies have set up a monitoring team to enforce the order.
Ememobong further urged the public, especially proprietors of hotels and places of entertainment to take note to avoid unpleasant consequences.
It would be recalled that the state government has two years ago proscribed all cult activities in the state, just as the police command had identified over 50 cult groups in the state.
During repeated raids by the police on their den across the 31 local government areaa of the state, no fewer than 150 youth alleged to have indulged in the act had arrested and charged to court.
