The Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has taken the lead of pressure groups challenging Governor Bala Mohammed in a court should he decline the calls to contest the presidential elections come 2023.
President of the National Youths Council of Nigeria, Adamu Ibrahim Dimis conveyed the emir’s message to the governor when he led amalgamation of associations and groups Monday to the Bauchi Government House where they implored Senator Bala Mohammed to join the presidential race.
Dimis said, “We were earlier at the Bauchi Emir’s palace where we pleaded the support of His Royal Highness to cajole Governor Bala Mohammed to heed to the various calls across the broad spectrum of the society to join the presidential race”.
Alhaji Adamu Dimis noted that the governor was the only person who as a federalist while in the Senate saved the country from constitutional catastrophe when he moved the motion for the then vice president Goodluck Jonathan to take the mantle of leadership following the incapacitation of president Umaru Musa ‘Yar-Adua.
Dimis explained that the coalition has made adequate consultations with stakeholders before coming up with its position, saying the governor has distinguished himself in the art of governance in all his previous positions, as his popularity also cut across all sections of the country.
The coalition captain expressed confidence that their preferred candidate will win the presidential elections if given the chance to contest, and assured of its resolve to continue to canvass support for Governor Bala Mohammed across the nooks and crannies of the country.
While noticing that the governor accords decorum to President Muhammadu Buhari despite being in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the national youths chief expressed optimism that Senator Bala Mohammed would win the 2023 presidential election if he accepts to contest the seat.
“We had a dream that Governor Bala Mohammed will win the presidential election in 2023 if he eventually agrees to join the race and we are confident that this dream would become a reality. Afterall, Bala Mohammed has never lost elections”, Dimis told the mammoth crowd the besieged the Government House.
Alhaji Adamu Dimis enumerated the groups and associations that he led to prevail on the governor which include national union of road transport workers (NURTW) State Amalgamated Union of Traders and Artisans, National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Union of Tricycle Riders, Ten-Ten Women Groups and a host of others.
Governor Bala Mohammed has while responding thanked the coalition for finding him suitable for the most exalted position in the nation, saying that it was not the first time such call was been made on his to contest the seat.
Senator Bala Mohammed said though he is contented with his current position as Governor, stressing however that he would make wider consultations with critical stakeholders across the country to determine his acceptance or otherwise to contest.
He gave the critical stakeholders to include journalists to which profession he first took sojourn as a reporter, federal civil service as a federalist where he rose to the rank of director, he was also a senator, minister and now governor, saying he has a stake in all these constituencies.
Senator Bala Mohammed explained that he also has the consult his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on which cradle he would rose to the envisaged position, the traditional institution, the Ulamas and Clergymen, and above all the good people of Bauchi state whose mandate he is now enjoying.
