Akwa Ibom SWAN Celebrates Paul Bassey At 63


*describes him as astute sports ambassador


Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Akwa Ibom State chapter has on Friday, August 9, 2021, joined millions of admirers and well wishers of Elder Paul Bassey to celebrate him as he clocks 63.
SWAN in a goodwill message signed by the chapter chairman, Mr Emmanuel Akpan and secretary, Mr Theophilus Udo, described Elder Bassey as the Ambassador of Sporting World whose contributions to sports development have dotted the sector.
“Sir, we are proud of you for living up to our expectations as our Ambassador in the sporting world with services in the Nigeria Football federation (NFF), Confederation of African Football (CAF) and International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), and now you are bringing your wealth of experience in helping our darling team Akwa United FC to be a leading club in professionalism.
“As you celebrate your new age, we pray God to crown your labour for our dear State with another historic success in the sporting world”, the message read.
The Sports journalists also prayed to God to grant Elder Bassey long life and in good health to continue to impact positively to mankind.
In the same direction, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, Commissioner forYouth & Sports in the state in another message, stated that Elder Bassey has in the discharge of his duties as veteran in sports writing and administration, carved a niche for himself, thus, he and family was proud to associate him on a special day as his birthday.
His words, “As a veteran FIFA and CAF Match Commissioner, a shrewd FIFA and CAF Instructor and a seasoned CAF General Coordinator, you have brought your wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of the barrage of duties which have been assigned to you as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor so much so that the growth of sports in our state has been noticeably accelerated.
“We have also watched in awe how you, as the helmsman of Akwa United Football Club, have thrusted our beloved club to a Nigeria Federation Cup title success as well as a slot in the continental showpiece of CAF Confederations Cup and now our darling team sits atop the Nigeria Professional Football League standings”, he added. Elder Paul Bassey, a veteran journalist and member of SWAN, is Senior Special Assistant (Sports) to the Governor/Chairman, Akwa United FC of Uyo.
