Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Saturday joined in solidarity with identified with June 12 protesters in Ibadan as youths and Yoruba nation agitators matched round Ibadan to commemorate this year’s democracy day .
As the June 12 protesters were heading towards the Osuntokun Junction along UI-Secretariat road in Ibadan, the governor suddenly surfaced and joined the protest with the protesters applauding his arrival and presence into their midst.
The governor on arrival took his time to address the protesters urging them to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and be law abiding.
Governor Makinde also cautioned the protesters not to allow hoodlums hijack the peace protest from them to cause breakdown of law and order.
After associating with the protesters for some minutes, the governor later drove off while the protesters continued the protest to and the entrance of the Oyo State Government Secretariat Agodi where their leaders addressed them
Addressing the protesters, the leaders said “we need an active President, the present President is not active, we cannot continue like this, this suffering is too much, the price of all essential commodities are too high, the electricity is no more encouraging”.
” Our President recently suspended Twitter, this is injustice to our freedom of expression and not augur well. We want better standard of living, this present administered has failed us.Fuel price is increasing and there is no justification for it, there are killings of innocent people here and there, our people cannot go to farm again and this has given rise to the price of essential food commodities in market, and with all these problem our president seems not to be bothered.
The protesters also lamented, “we can’t just continue like this we need to change the present situation by changing our president who has failed to deliver all his electoral promises after almost seven years in power,” the protester laments
The protest was carried out amidst heavy presence of armed security agencies stationed in all the strategic locations and seen keeping surveillance on government establishment and others in the state.
