President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway.
The President said government’s intension to develop and modernize the country’s rail transportation system is meant to boost Nigeria’s economy.
He disclosed that Lagos-Kano railway will link up with Maradi in Nigeria Republic when it is completed.
Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, while speaking on the occasion held on Thursday, recounted the number of railway modernization projects that had been commissioned.
“First was the Abuja-Kaduna, Warri-Itakpe and now the Lagos to Ibadan,” Amaechi said, stressing that Lagos-Ibadan rail project “is one project started and ended by this present administration “
Chairman, Board of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Alhaji Alhassan Ibrahim Musa, narrated how the project encountered obstacles, and expressed satisfaction that the federal government did not give up the determination to accomplish it.
The 156.8 kilometers infrastructure with 6.51 kilometers extension to Apapa seaport in Lagos State started from year 2017  and was completed in 2021.
