The North West Directors of Sports have appealed to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to allow states to use sponsors logos when they are participating at national competitions.
The appeal was contained in a communique issued at the end of the North West Sports Stakeholders Meeting, jointly signed by the Zonal Co-ordinator,North-West Zone, Idris Abdullahi and the Director of Sports,Katsina State/Chairman,North-West States, Directors of Sports., Alh. Iro Nalado Kankia, made available to newsmen on Thursday.
The communique also called on philanthropists, business moguls, corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to invest in sports most especially as the sector has been elevated from leisure and recreation to full business by the NationalCouncil of Sports.
The stakeholders also announced the endorsement of Engineer Dr. Musa Nimrod as the sole candidate for representation at the Board of Volleyball Federation.
The forum said that non performing zonal representatives are strongly adviced to stay – aside as the zone will only vote credible and competent persons on the boardsof various sports federations.
They ommended the efforts of the “Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development under the highly technical, tactical and innovative Honourable Minster of Youth and Sports, ChiefSunday Dare and the results oriented Permanent Secretary, Mr. Nebolisa Anako for resuscitating the National Principal Cup and the Headmasters Cup from comatose”.
They also commended the efforts of Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Kano states governments on giant strides towards sports and facilities development and adviced Sports Federations Members to work in harmony in the general interest of developing the sector(s) to world standard, as enshrined in the Year – 2020 Revived Policy on Sports and Business.
They informed that states within the zone will in future National Sports Festivals, featureidentified athletes (elite) with the aim of winning more medals at various sports/games.
North West stakeholders commended the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and that of Edo State Government in the successes recorded at the 20th National Sports Festival despite constraints and time factor (series of postponement).
Further, they resolved to intensify Grassroots Sports Development programmes (competitions) at states level with a view for talents identification to feature same (athletes) at youth grades competitions i.e. National Principal Cup, National Youth Games etc.
The Zonal Sports Office is also to introduce Weekly Athletics League among schools (Primary and Secondary) within Kaduna State with the aim of talents identification and nurturing to serve as a feeder to our current national athletes.
“Sokoto State to host maiden Edition of Sir Ahmadu Bello, KBE, M.O.E. MHA, Sardauna Sokoto U-17 Soccer Championship.
“Katsina State to host Capacity Building Programme (Coaching Clinic on Weight – Lifting) and third Quarter Meeting of Directors of Sports.
“Kebbi State to Host the 6th Edition of National Youth Games – Zonal Teams Sports -Elimination.
“Jigawa State to Host U-17 Women Volleyball Championship from 24th – 27th June, 2021,” they informed.
The meeting recorded the participation of six (6) Directors of Sports (Jigawa, Kaduna. Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara Sates), the Honourable Commissioner of Sports. Kaduna State and the Chairman, Caretaker Committee,Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF).
