No More Special Promotion For Policemen – IGP Alkali

Inspector General of Police (IGP)

The Inspector General of Police Baba Alkali Usman has asserted that no police personnel would be accorded special promotion under his tenure.
He posited that special promotion is not a better way of rewarding good performance, but godfatherism.
Alkali made the assertion during his visit to Lagos while addressing officers and men at the headquarters of the State Command in Ikeja on Wednesday.
The police boss assured that his administration will definitely reward outstanding personnel when necessary  through commendation certificate, but not by special promotion.
According to him, rewarding outstanding performance would spur the beneficiary to double his or her efforts.
His words, ” If you reward somebody, but will encourage him to do more, we will reward you when necessary.
Special promotion is not reward but godfatherism, you will not see us doing that. Commendation certificate is  a reward”.
The IGP who sound emphatically, warned that erring personnel would be punished appropriately and not through transfer.
He however enjoined them to exploit the police housing scheme to own their own house while in service, rather than wasteful spending.
While fielding questions from some personnel, the police boss sympathised with those who died and loss property during the EndSARS crisis in the state and prayed again reoccurrence.
He also bemoaned the manner in which the crisis was managed by the police authority and vowed that such approach would not be adopted in case of reoccurrence.
Meanwhile, the exercise was disrupted by a heavy down pour that began as the IGP was about to commence the programme at about 2.00pm.
The tarpoulen under which he was seated along other senior officers was blown off by a heavy wind that preceded the rain fall.
