Expending N1bn On Rehabilitation, Furnishing Agric Minister’s Office Scandalous – AFAN

All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has said that the rehabilitation and furnishing of the Honourable Minister of Agriculture’s office at the whopping sum of 1 billion is scandalous.
The Assistant National Publicity Secretary of AFAN, Alhaji Salisu Mukhtar stated this while reacting to the rehabilitation cost.
He said if it is true, the contract cost is highly exaggerated at 1 billion Naira but even at 200 million Naira, it is irresponsible to embark on this kind of expenditure at this time when the country is facing challenges of food insufficiency and general  economic hardship.
Alh. Mukhtar said this action is clueless and smacks of lack of good advisers or he does not listen to them at all.
According to him, the Agric  Minister expended 2.7 billion Naira on farmer-data capture without involving the real stakeholders when he could have done that via NIMC with $433 million Identity Management grant from the World Bank.
” He claims there are no seeds in Nigeria and is doing many things inimical to the seed system by violating the provisions of the Seed Act-2019.
“He tells lies on Nigeria’s mechanization drive by saying that 60,000 tractors will be made available through the $ 1.1 billion Brazil loan arrangement.

“He also claimed that he spent billions of Naira on fighting imaginary pests and  locusts and   birds in the country and  built a 30 million Naira Friday mosque for IDPs.

“Also, according to the minister, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development bought a property for about 7 billion sometime ago to use as its permanent office but he is now renovating a temporary office with this whopping amount.

“These infractions are sufficient enough for Mr President to set up a panel of investigation to find out the issues on ground in the Ministry of Agriculture  to avert disaster.”
