It was confusion galore in Igangan in Ibarapa North local government, area of Oyo State as no fewer than 20 people were in the early hours of Sunday killed in the town by gunmen suspected to be herders.
New Nigerian gathered that the gunmen said to be about 50 in number, stormed the town in the night with about 20 motorcycles shooting sporadically.
They were said to also during the attack, razed the Palace of the traditional ruler of the town, Asigangan of Igangan as well as a popular petroleum station.
Secretary of Farmers Union in Oyo State who is based in Igangan, Mr Taiwo Adeagbo said 20 people were feared kill during the invasion and exchange of gunshot between the bandits and security agencies drafted.
According to Adeagbo, the suspected herdsmen stormed the town at about 12 midnight and “burnt many property, cars, a truck and a petrol station.
Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adewale Osifeso in a statement said, “on Saturday at about 2310hrs, a yet to be ascertained number of unknown assailants invaded Igangan town with dangerous weapons in a bid to create unrest in the town.”
DSP Osifeso added, “the unscrupulous elements were however repelled by a combination of Operational and tactical assets immediately deployed to the scene to restore normalcy.
“The situation is being closely monitored and comprehensive investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.”
