The National Association Of Polytechnic Students’ (NAPS) has while commending the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) for fighting a good cause, appealed to the union to call off its two-month old strike in the interest of the students, who are at the receiving end.

NAPS made the appeal in a letter addressed  to the ASUP Chairman Kaduna Polytechnic, dated May 3, signed by its National President, Activist Sunday A. Asuku.

“Our leadership deems it pertinent at this point to write your secretariat as you approach the congress with respect to the on-going ASUP strike which will be two (2) months on 6th June 2021.
“It is crystal clear that your union (ASUP) has fought a good fight for defending the interest of our sector (Polytechnic) from total collapse, we affirm your interest is to save the technical education which is obviously underfunded, we have carefully followed your agitations and we make bold to say you have done well and posterity will be kind to you.

“However, we humbly appeal that you give FG and the general public another benefit of doubt by shifting ground again, since two wrongs don’t make a right we plead that you see beyond the laxity of FG in this regard and return back to class while giving the FG another chance to meet up with your demands, these will be to the advantage of the innocent students whom will never be compensated for time unjustly wasted if the strikeaction should continue,” NAPS appealed.
According to the letter titled, “APPEAL FOR THE SUSPENSION OF ASUP STRIKE” NAPS assured ASUP of total solidarity in the next phase of strike, should the Federal Government fail to act.
“While agitations and discussions are on-going sir, kindly consider the suspension of strike action and return to work, not because of the rigidity of FG but in the interest ofwe your children and the future of our dear country.
“We assure you of our unflinching support and solidarity in the next phase of action should FG fail again to honor this noble benefit and do the needful,” the letter assured.

NAPS pointed out that with a total sense of humility, their solidarity to the struggle remains unshaken.
“While anticipating your consideration of our appeal, Please accept our warm regards,” it concluded.
National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) is an umbrella body for all institutions awarding ND/HND cuts across the six (6) geo-political zones of thefederation.
