Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) had announced Saturday August 14 as a new date for the rescheduled local government elections.
Acting chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Sambo disclosed this at a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at the commission’s office.
“The Commission has fixed Saturday 14th August, 2021 as theLocal Government Councils Election day – between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm,” he announced.
Sambo said that resolutions of the meeting of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission held on the 1st June, 2021 informed the decision for the postponement.
Speaking further, he said that there shall be no extension of time for any political party to submit the list of its candidates for the upcoming Local GovernmentCouncils Election.
“Results of all Political Parties’ primary elections stand as submitted.
“Substitution of candidates is only applicable on the list submittedearlier by the Political Parties within the time frame of fifteen (15)days before election, in line with Section 30, sub-1, Law No. 2 of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission.
“Substitution of candidate(s) is not automatic but can only be done onthe following grounds:a. Candidate’s voluntary withdrawalb. Death/Incapacitationc. Disqualification by the screening committee of the Commission By virtue of the provisions of Section 21 of Law No. 2 of 2021 of theKaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, which vested inthe Commission the exclusive powers to determine the timing of all elections,” he said.
