A 47 years old man has been arrested by men of the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly duping POS operators with counterfeit currency.
According to a statement by the Oyo state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adewale Osifeso, the 47yr old suspect identified as Ibrahim Adewale was nabbed by the Command’s monitoring Unit Operatives on Wednesday 26th of May 2021, at Elekara area in Oyo town.
The PPRO stressed that Ibrahim, who is the leader of a 2-man syndicate mode of operation was to deposit counterfeit Naira notes with unsuspecting Point of Sales (POS) operators and then withdraw from another in close proximity through the help of his partner.
He stated that Ibrahim ran out of luck last Wednesday when the 98 pieces of a thousand naira note he allegedly deposited with a POS operator was immediately discovered and was immediately apprehended .
He noted that Ibrahim’s partner however, his partner took to his heels after endlessly waiting for a credit alert on his handset, adding that efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing member of the syndicate.
DSP Osifeso listed exhibit recovered from Ibrahim Adewale as 98 pieces of Counterfeit 1,000 naira notes.
