Save the Children International (SCI) has commended the media for promoting Social Protection Programmes (SPP) in Zamfara State through their reportages.
The commendation was made by the Social Protection and Inclusion Coordinator (SPIC) of the SCI, Mrs Ese Awharitoma at a one-day media round table discussion on social protection organised by the Save the Children in Gusau the Zamfara State capital.
Awharitoma said the media have being supportive to the Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP) and this is helping in strengthening Social Protection systems in Zamfara State.
“The media is playing important role in enlightening the critical stakeholders in the state on impact of Social Protection,” she said.
Awharitoma added that the CDGP is redirecting its emphasis on system strengthening for adoption of the Social Protection Programme in the state despite no donor to support it.
The Chairman, Zamfara Social Protection Platform (ZSPP) Malam Nasiru Usman Biyabiki said that media played important role in reaching out to key implementers of Social Protection activities in the state.
“This meeting would strengthen the existing relationship between the media, SCI, implementing MDAs as well as other relevant stakeholders especially as it affects promoting the process of achieving social protection policy in the state,” he said.
Earlier the Secretary of the ZSPP, Malam Yusuf Yahaya commended media practitioners and CSOs in the state for participating in advocacy activities on Social Protection Programmes in the state.
The meeting was organised by the SCI to obtain feedback from the media on achievements, challenges of creating awareness on Social Protection Programmes in the state.
