ABU Students Finish Third At Huawei ITC Global Competition

Students of Ahmadu  Bello  University (ABU) Zaria  have  emerged  third  globally   at  the  fifth Hauwei ICT  Competition  held  at  Sheenzhen  China.

Speaking at the   award  ceremony  held  at the  Ahmadu Bello  University  Assembly  Hall,  the  Vice  Chancellor, Prof. Kabir  Bala  said the  success  recorded  was   due  to the  commitment  of the  instructors  and   dedication and  interest   by the  students  which is  highly  commendable  and the  University  will  continue  to  support  Huawei  ICT  Academy.

Prof. Bala   assured  Huawei  ICT that the  donated  equipment  will be   used  to  train students  to  acquire  hands-on-skills  to   bridge  the  digital  divide  in  intermediate  and  advanced  technologies in  routing,  switching and  security .

He  said  creating and  maintaining  a  strong  ICT   ecosystem through some  of the initiatives  can enhance  discovery of  ICT   talents, skills  acquisition, opportunities  and   promote  ICT   industry  certification.

The  Vice  Chancellor  said the   global  final    had  a  total   of  49  teams  from  30  countries  and  among them  six  are  ABU   students  who  participated  in  both  Network  and  cloud   track.

The  students  that  received  their  certificates  are  Muhammad  Mustapha  Mahaja,  Fahad  Danladi, Abdulkadir  Babagana Musa,  Dahir  Muhammad  Dahir, Abdullahi Khlifa  Muhammad and Mustapha  Abdullahi Jimoh.

In his  message,  the  Minister of  Communication  and   Digital   Economy,  Dr.  Isa  Ali Ibrahim Pantami  said  the  world is   fast  becoming  different in  almost   every  fronts, from  what   it had always  been i and  ICT is  practically  at the  centre  of these  charges  being  witnessed.

Represented by Prof.  M.B. Abubakar, Managing  Director  Galaxy Backbone  said  by  implication,  every sector  of the  global  community  must  adjust  with  these  changes  in order   for them   to  remain  relevant.

The  Minister   added  that   educational  Institutions  have  a  duty  of  championing  the  cause  and  setting the  pace  in terms  of  research  and  innovation in  admissible   areas  with  respect  to  a  given  part  of the   final   community  they  belong.

According  to  him,  the  achievements  of   Ahmadu Bello  University  are   showing  leadership  and  hope  in the   vision  of  a  digitalized  Nigeria.

Dr.  Pantami  commended  the   management  of  ABU   and  staff  of  Huawei International  Company  for  offering  this platform   which  has  seen Nigerian youth   display extraordinary  skills  and  resourcefullness in  a  dynamic  sector   as that  of  the  information and  communication  technology.

Earlier in  his  speech, Assistant  Director  Huawei International, Mr.  Star  Shi,  said  they are  celebrating  excellent  hard work,  the  future   and  glory  that the  Nigerian  students   have   achieved.

He  said  in   Huawei, they  recognize  students  are the  future of the  society  that is   why they organized the  competition to   cultivate,  develop  and  build  talents.

According  to  him,  Huawei  has  been in Nigeria   for  over  20  years  and  in the  last  three, Huawei  ICT  Academy  has  invested  resources  in   talent  cultivation which  is the  major  reason  why  they are  celebrating  success.

He  declared the  2021 to 2022  competition open  to  all  Nigerian  students  who   want  to  compete.
