Malam Ismail Musa of Layin Mahauta, Tudun Jukun Zaria has said that he paid N50,000 as ransom to secure the release of his 4-years old son who was allegedly kidnapped by his neighbor.
He said his son was kidnapped on Friday May 14 after coming back from Friday prayers in Tudun Jukun Zaria.
According to Musa, the kidnappers told the boy that they wanted to send him on an errand but he refused and they forcefully took him away on a motorcycle with his face covered.
“Later in the day, we went searching for the boy from houses of ward heads and village heads, hospitals and police stations but we could not trace him.
” While we were receiving neighbors who were sympathizing with us, we received a letter which said we should not bother about looking for the missing child he boy is with them.
“The letter also demanded two million Naira as the ransom to be paid and a phone number to reach the abductors for further negotiations,” he said.
Musa said the development was reported to the Police at Tudun Wada Division in Zaria who advised him to call the number.
He added that after negotiations, he agreed to give them N60,000 and abductors agreed that the money should be deposit at a designated account domiciled at Guaranty Trust Bank.
He said the sum of N50,000 was paid into the account and the boy was subsequently released on May 20.
However, Sani Uwal-luwa of Layin Mahauta, Tudun Jukun has been arrested as the mastermind of the act.
Musa said a girlfriend of the Uwal-luwa confirmed to the community leaders and police that the suspect initially brought the boy for her keep for him where she rejected.
ASP Muhammad Jalige, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Kaduna State Command has confirmed the incident, adding that investigations into the matter were ongoing.
