The National Youth Leader’s Forum (NYLF) has disclosed that no degree of threat and intimidation will make them change their decision to endorse either Governor Bala Mohammed or High Chief Raymond Dokpesi for 2023 presidency.
The decision was taken at the Forum’s 27th delegate conference meeting held in Yola the Adamawa State capital.
The National Chairman of NYLF, Comrade Elliot Afiyo, while speaking to journalists at the NUJ Centre Saturday, said the Delegates Conference supposed to be one of the special delegates conference as it was designed to endorse and announce their choice candidate for the 2023 presidential election but for some circumstances beyond their control they could not.
Afiyo maintained that the forum has decided to shift the endorsement to the 5th of June, 2021 to honour the departed Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru and other officers of the Nigerian Army and Air Force who died in a plane crash.
He therefore warn other presidential hopeful planning to cause crisis that the NYLF decision to endorse either Mohammed or Dokpesi is unshakable.
“We have convincing reasons to back up our decision and it is our stand point, we need courageous people with lion heart to govern Nigeria and the duo have those qualities”, he stated.
Afiyo pointed out that the NYLF totally supports the call for national dialogue and endorsed the ban on open grazing in the country.
“We have taken time to study the communique issued by the Southern Governors, especially on the ban on open grazing.
“We want to state clearly that open grazing has been the greatest threat to the environment of the northern region and also a major threat to security of lives and property in the entire country” the Forum stated.
The group however called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency and national interest consider and obey the calls.
“In order to enforce completely the ban on open grazing, we called for the establishment of Herder’s Commission or Agency to carter for the needs of the herders through selective programmes so as to effectively kick start the ranching system”, he said.
NYLF also condemned the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for his utterance on the ban on open grazing
“We also condemned the statement credited to the Attorney General of the Federation on the ban on open grazing and appeal to the President to caution his ministers and aides who despite being in government for six years are still having opposition mentality”, Comrade Afiyo stated.
On the recent Air Force plane that killed the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru and ten others, Comrade Afiyo called for the immediate composition of an independent investigative panel to ascertain the remote cause(s) of the crash and made the report public
