Armed bandits in their numbers on Thursday, attacked the farm of the Emir of Kontagora, (Sarkin Sudan Namaska) and killed several persons who were at the farm.
One of the slain was the son of the Emir, Bashir Namaska who led other farmworkers at the farm at the time of the attack.
The incident has thrown the entire Kontagora emirate into pensive mourning as news if the attack and death of the son of the traditional ruler spread across the state.
Sources in Kontagora recounted that two days earlier, there were rumours about the impending raid by armed bandits to the ancient town, but not many people took the story seriously.
Some of those who later went to the Emir’s farm at the outskirts of the town, among whom was the son of the first class Emir.
According to sources, the armed bandits struck at the farm and opened fire on those tending the farm.
The Emir’s son according to our source was hit by several bullets on his abdomen and chest regions.
He was rushed to the hospital but confirmed dead on arrival by medics.
Armed bandits operating in the eastern parts of the state, Shiroro, Munya, and neighbouring areas had recently entered into agreement to stop further raids on their communities after they had received payments from the Gbagyi communities.
Most of those chased out of their villages by the bandits and were resettled at Internally Displaced Persons Camps have been returning home following the agreement with the armed bandits.
But the agreement was only for communities in the eastern parts of the state as armed bandits have continued to attack communities in other parts of the state.
Last Friday, three soldier’s on sentinel were shot dead during cross fire with armed bandits at Mariga area of the state.
At the time of filing this report, it was was not clear if the remains of the slain son of the Emir was buried.
