A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chieftain, Dr. Braduce Amakezi Angozi had been advised to come out and formerly declare his aspiration as a candidate for the governorship election under the party.
The call was made by a group, the Youth Arise Initiatives (YAI), in a statement after their meeting on Monday May 17, 2021, where they took a critical look at the statement of the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on equity.
The group, in the statement signed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Rex Ochuko Ogboru, and the Secretary, Ambassador Ochuko Olomu, called on the one time Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area, and Commissioner of Agriculture, to come out openly and declare his intention, as he will be the best person to continue the Stronger Delta Agenda of the present government.
According to the statement, Dr. Braduce Amakazi Angozi is a man with focus, and who sees the entire state as one big family, and will not be seen on ethnic level.
They said that the statement of the governor that who will be the next governor of the state, should see Asaba, as the state capital, and not another city in the state, is a clear indication, that the party is focused to continue development of the state.
“On 2023 Delta State Governorship race, we the members of YAI, call on a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to put his political policies together, and come out to formerly declare for the race.
“We are making the statement, in furtherance of the statement of the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on his interpretation of equity as regard the governorship election.
“The governor’s statement has made it clear that there is nothing like zoning in the party.”
They said that before Governor Okowa, the state capital was nothing to be proud of, but today, Asaba can be proudly showcased as an emerging administrative and commercial hub in the country.
The members of YAI said with the open declaration by Dr. Angozi, the state will be assured of a credible candidate in the race for 2023, as it needs a honest person, who will not only be a political merchant, but a good administrator, mobiliser, and focused leader, devoid of any tribal or ethnic biase in governance, and such a person can only be found in him.
“We know the state of Asaba before the coming of Governor Okowa. He had changed the look of the state capital, and everyone is hungry to visit the capital city, and it will be in the interest of the incoming governor to continue the development of the state capital, along with other parts of the state. On this we find the person of Braduce Amakazi Angozi as the only persons that will see the entire state as his own.” They said.
The statement further explained that the body language of the Governor, and the political maneuverings prior to the 2015 PDP primaries, is to tell the proponents of the zoning formular that there was never any agreement for zoning in the party.
“The governor, who is the leader of the party in the state, had said it all, there is nothing like zoning in the party, the coast is clear for him, he just have to come out formerly to declare his governorship ambition,” they concluded.
