Akwa Ibom Goes Tougher On Sexual, Gender-based Violence

Akwa Ibom State Government has further deepened its resolve to tackle the rising trend in sexual and gender-based violence in the state.
At the State Executive Council meeting on Monday, held at the Exco Chambers of Government House, Uyo, the Council upgraded the Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response Unit in the State to a full department in the Ministry of Justice.
The department is expected to collaborate with the Ministries of Women Affairs & Social Welfare,  Health and other critical agencies while the the respective ministries are charged to ensure that rape and other related crimes are tackled effectively.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong who announced the Exco decisions also said that the Council took a comprehensive mid term analysis and milestone assessment of all ministries.
Arising thereof, Comrade Ememobong said the Council  directed that School farms should be established in all Public Secondary, Technical and Primary Schools in the state. 
Additionally, The Ministry of Education was directed to make Agricultural Science a compulsory subject in all public secondary, technical and primary schools while Agricultural Science Teachers are to be recruited and posted to all schools.

To address the challenge in teachers enrolment in the state, Council directed all youth corps members posted to the state are to be assigned to schools to teach.
