The umbrella body of all Yoruba Self determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua on Saturday alerted that men of the Nigeria Police Force has finally declared war on the group with the arrest of 25 in Abeokuta by men of its Ogun State command .
Ilana Omo Oodua in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan by its Media and Communications Secretary,, Comrade Maxwell Adeleye said “officers of the Nigerian Police Force from the Ogun State Police Command, on Saturday waylaid, and arrested 25 members of Ilana Omo Oodua as they were preparing for a peaceful rally”.
According to the statement, the Policemen were ” acting as if they were battling Boko Haram Terrorists and Bandits in the War Zones of Northern Nigeria” during the operation.
“This is to let the general public know that the centrally-controlled Officers of the Nigerian Police have arrested 25 of our Comrades as they were preparing for the Pro-Yoruba Nation’s rally scheduled to hold today in Abeokuta, Ogun State.”, it said
The body added, “the arrested Yoruba Patroits were picked up in a commando style in front of the Alake Of Egba’s Palace in Abeokuta, the state capital by over 200 Armed-To-Teeth Officers of the Nigerian Police.”
” We want to put it on record that those arrested did not commit any crime, rather, they are being vilified and harassed for exercising their rights to self-determination and peaceful assembly”.
Ilana Omo Oodua stressed that the arrested leaders and members including Comrades Wasiu Iyanda, Makanjuola Adigun, and 23 others were hounded into a standby black Maria by the armed policemen amidst molestation .
The body however called ” on the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to ensure that his state is not used to oppress the Yoruba people in any manner”, saying, “we want Mr. Governor to remember that whatever happens today becomes history tomorrow”,
