Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso on Friday protested the death of a final year student of the university
The final year student of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Biotech Method died while attempting to fix an electric fault in his residence.
It was learnt that the deceased student suddenly fell off into a nearby soak away and was rushed to the LAUTECH teaching hospital where he later died.
The death of the student, identified as Asefon Nifemi Benard sparked off the protest by his fellow students attributing his death to an alleged negligence on the part of medical officers on duty when he was rushed into the hospital.
During the protest, the students paralysed activities at the hospital for hours with about 10 vehicles vandalised by suspected hoodlums that reportedly joinned the protesting students.
Following the death of the final year student, the Management of the University declared a lecture free-day, while any lectures or tests that might have been conducted earlier today will be declared null and void.
The Management in a release on Friday by the school registrar, Dr. Kayode Ogunleye said, “it has just come to the notice of the University management that a 500-Level graduating student of the department of Animal Nutrition and Biotechnology, Asefon Nifemi Benard, died off-campus yesterday, April 22, 2021”.
” In sympathy with the student, friends and family, the university management hereby declare today Friday April 23, 2021 as lecture free-day, while any lectures or tests that might have been conducted earlier today will be declared null and void Management further appeals to students not to take laws into their hands. Appropriate steps will be taken to further get the facts surrounding the death of the students.”
The letter reads further, ” once again, management commiserates with the students, family and friends of the deceased. Meanwhile, the University administration has taken steps to take care of the burial of the deceased and convey his corpse to the family.God will give the university the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
