Many people were reportedly killed by bandits in separate attacks in about six communities in Magami Ward of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday.
According to sources in some of the communities where the attacks by the bandits took place name Yandoka, Kango, Ruwan Dawa said the bandits numbering over 300 arrived the villages on motorcycles and began to shoot sporadically at anything in sight which resulted in the death of scores of the villagers.
The sources and others from the affected villages are now taking refuge in Magami town as their villages have been deserted following the deadly attacks by the bandits.
A source said the the bandits arrived their village and went on killing spree.
“Since the arrival of the bandits in our village Kango Fadan Mala around some minutes after 7am in the morning today Wednesday, we began calling security agencies but sadly many people from neighboring villages that tried to help to face the bandits were killed by the bandits.
“We loss dozens of our people, the burial of some corpses have began as the people of our neighboring village have taken their dead ones for burial.
“Even the son of my elder brother was among those killed as I am talking to you his corpse is yet to be brought from the bush.
“We did not receive any assistance from the security agencies even up to this moment that I am talking to you.
“This is the 4th attacks in the last two weeks.
“We escaped and trekked from our villages to Magami from where I am talking to you now,” he said.
Another source in Yandoka village said many killed in the village have been already buried.
“Many people were killed and buried in our village and presently there are still many in the bushes whose corpses have not be taken for burial due to fear of being attacked again by the bandits. I witnessed the burial many dead persons in Ruwan Dawa village.
“At present there are still many corpses at the hospital here in Magami town.
“An aircraft that came did nothing to the bandits, it saw them but went outside the village and released bombs which did not in any way affects the bandits,” he said.
Another source said he got hints of the attacks by bandits earlier in the morning when he he received phone calls from neighboring villages.
“Before they arrived our village, people of neighboring villages called me and others warning us to leave as they saw bandits heading towards our village on about 90 motorcycles.
“I was at the village when the bandits stormed our village around 7.20am on about 90 motorcycles each motorcycle carrying two bandits with guns.
The bandits riding the motorcycles on reaching the village will drop the passengers and go back to bring in more, so by the time the attack began there are more than 300 bandits in our village.
“If you visit the hospital in Magami, you will see everywhere covered with blood.
“We are in serious dilemma, we need urgent security action to curtail the wanton destruction of lives in our areas, he appealed.
