In a bid to curb the rising rate of unemployment in the country, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has recruited no fewer than 630 youth across the 18 local government areas of Cross River State to be trained under its Vocational Skills Development Programme.
This was disclosed in Calabar on Tuesday by NDE Acting Director General, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo while flagging off the training programme.
He said the exercise was being carried out across the country and that 20 youth were recruited from each of the 18 local government areas of the state.
According to him, this contributes significantly, by the role the sector plays in stimulating the economy, promoting flexible labour markets and stimulating productive activities among others .
He advised the beneficiaries to be focus and serious as the capacity building program will one day change their story.
“This programme was designed to train Nigerian youths to be independent as well as contribute to the growth of the economy after graduation,” he said.
He wished them success during the duration of the training programme.
