Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Vivian Ngozi Onadeko on Thursday hinted that the state Police command has deployed a combined team of Intelligence, Operational and Tactical assets in concert with local vigilantes to the Idi-Ayunre axis of Oluyole Local Government Area in Ibadan, Oyo State following incessant cases of kidnapping in the area.
CP Onadeko in a statement on her behalf by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adewale Osifeso made available to newsmen in Ibadan declared that the combined team is expected to send packing the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers operating in the bushes along the axis of the Ibadan – Ijebu Ode road.
According to the Commissioner of Police, “the combined team is to be under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Gbenga Ojo”, with a clear mission of embarking ” on a tactical sweep of the forest aimed at destabilising “criminal operations, establishing Police presence, rescuing abductees and apprehending the abductors.”
” The attention of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko has been drawn to the unfortunate abduction incidents experienced along Idi-Ayunre axis of Oluyole Local Government Area in Ibadan, Oyo State. Consequent upon this, a combined team of Intelligence, Operational and Tactical assets in concert with local vigilantes and hunters under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Gbenga Ojo, embarked on a tactical sweep of the forest aimed at destabilizing criminal operations, establishing Police presence, rescuing abductees and apprehending the abductors”, she said.
The Commissioner of Police added, ” security of lives and properties still remained the number one priority of the Oyo state Police Command and unequivocally reaffirmed the command’s commitment towards ensuring that commuters plying Ibadan—Ijebu-Ode Road in Idi-Ayunre axis of Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan in Oyo State.
Assuring that ” residence and the good people of the state as a whole, should move about their daily activities without any fear of molestation or harassment”, CP Onadeko urged the people of Oyo state not to relent in sharing credible and timely information with the police for effective discharge of their duties.
The Commissioner of Police also pointed out that another security apparatus has been deployed to enhance the already existing security architecture in the state to enable the Muslim faithfuls enjoy a crime-free Ramadan period and beyond.
