A northern group, Concerned Northern Forum, (CNF), has called on Nigerians to rally round the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), towards ensuring corrupt public officers are made to face the wrath of the law, irrespective of who the person may be.
The forum noted that the courage and doggedness of the youngest Nigerian heading the EFCC by Abdulrasheed Bawa as its chairman in treating issues that has to do with corrupt Nigerians should be encouraged in order to free the country from financial impropriety to give way to sound development in the country.
Comrade Abdulsalam Mohammed Kazeem, the forum’s spokesman, while addressing newsmen in Kaduna, explained, “If you could recalled, we held a world Press confress here on March 5th 2021, where we promised to embark on an un-interupted massive protest accross the country if the Economic and Financial Crime Commission failed to arrest Senator Rochars Okorocha over series of allegations by the people and government of Imo state, and the only condition we said could cease our proposed nation wide protest, is if only the former governors of Plateue and Taraba states are released unconditionally because they are both serving jail terms on same fundamental issues raised against Sen. Rochars Okorocha.”
The forum observed that they would see the prosecutions of the two former governor’s as a judicial coup against their region, the Northern Nigerian.
The group stated, “We salute the courage and doggedness of the youngest Nigerian to have ever occupied the position of EFCC chairman, the arrest of Sen. Rochars Okorocha by Abdulrasheed Bawa and his EFCC team have further proven many public affairs analyst wrong; whose opinions on the Anti Graft agency is termed ” EFCC is a toothless boo dog”.”
It hopes that by now, those who previously underrated the Commission as a resulted of her bad and lack of capacity headship or political interference would voluntarily submit themselves before been humiliated like Sen Rochars Okorocha.
The group called on the government of Imo state and all concerned Imolites to rally round the economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, by providing them with all the evidences needed to prosecute the man they alleged that has single handled drag their state 40 years backwards.
It added that the state government under the leadership of governor Hope Uzodinma should equally submit the white paper report of the committee set up by Rt. Hon. Emeka Ehedioha short term administration and other related committee which would help further helped in vindicating the current administration before all critical and objective observers, that the quest of the current administration is to help get back what belongs to Imolites in accordance to his campaign promises of rehabilitation, reconstruction and recovery.
The forum explained that the report is not to victimized the former Governor’s of the state politically as parceived by those who are on his Senator Rochars’ pay roll and those who the emergence of Senator Hope Uzodinma has completely blocked their in- legal means of killing the economic activities of the state to there own favour.
The group appealed to the current administration to desist from any attempt to politicised their demands or to interfere in the current trial of her party member (Sen Okorocha) and that of concerned Imolites, pointing out that the current administration should please keep to her campaign promises.
The forum alleged that assuming truth is a evidence of justice in Nigeria, Senator Rochars Okorocha, his wife and son in-law should be behind bar, the EFCC & ICPC should ensure that all properties he acquired inllegally should be retrive following due process, adding that this would serve as a lesson to him and his co cosperators.
The group suggested that any attempt to release him on bail would be vehemently resisted by us, adding that rather, he should be immidiately charged to court by EFCC from where we believe, he will found himself in one of the correctional centers and anything short of this, simple means that our two formers governors should be released unconditionally.
The group admitted, “The efforts put in place by the current governor and his cabinet will never be forgotten by all men and women of conscious locally and international. We hope to see more of such courage from other executive Governors across the nation, public office is a trust and as such rendering selfless services should be the watch world of the occupants.”
