Fresh tension is now mounting in Ayete, Ibarapa area of Oyo State over the killing of a 56-year old farmer identified as Babarinde Muftau on Wednesday evening by suspected herdsmen.
New Nigerian gathered that the said farmer was reportedly hacked to death by the suspected herdsmen during an attack on him by the culprits, said to be at large as at the time of sending this report
The late farmer was said to be returning from his farm along Orita Meta, Konko village in Ayete when he rammed into the hands of the herdsmen who in turn attacked him with cutlass and other dangerous weapons at about 8pm.
A human rights activist in the area and Convener of Igangan Development Advocate, Comrade Oladiran Oladokun. said during the attack, the suspected herdmen inflicting serious matcheted on the back of farmers neck, hands and his right leg, and that the farmer died as a result of the injuries.
Comrade Oladokun lamented that it was unfortunate that during and immediately after the attack, there was no one around the far to rescue the 56 years old farmer and that he subsequently died having lost blood from the deep cuts on his body
He maintained that the 56 years old farmer has since been buried by members of his family while the matter was reported at Igangan Police Station.
Contacted , Oyo state Police command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident, saying, crack detectives from the command are presently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the farmer.
DSP Osifeso said men of the command are trailing those behind the incident and that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with them.
