2023: Akwa Ibom APC Rejects Akpabio Leadership, Moves To Unite Factions

Senator Godswill Akpabio

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has resolved in a stakeholders’ meeting on Sunday in Uyo to collapse all factions in order to build a united and formidable party strong enough to take over the realms of governance in the state in 2023.

Accordingly, the stakeholders rejected the leadership status accorded the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio during one of the factional stakeholders’ meetings held last month in the State, describing it as a gross violation of the Party Constitution.

Arising from an eight-point communique reached at the meeting, the party leaders said the need to collapse all the factions in one fold is to avoid disunity and crisis of confidence that robbed it of victory in 2019 governorship elections in the State.
“That the stakeholders endorse the decision of the State Executive Committee (SEC) to declare as a nullity the unilateral proclamation and announcement  of Sen. Godswill Akpabio as the State Party Leader of APC in gross violation of the Party’s Constitution in the unauthorised and illegal Stakeholders meeting of Sunday, March 28, 2021.
“That the Party hereby reminds every member and the general public that the State Chairman (or Caretaker Chairman as applicable here) is the Chairman of the State Caucus as provided for in Article 12.9 Sub (i) of the party Constitution (October 2014 As Amended) and remains the Party Leader in the State until further notice.

“That the Party should urge every Stakeholder in the State, especially those in appointive positions to continue to support the party for the smooth running of party administration in the State.
“That the Party hereby assures stakeholders, party faithful and the general public that there is no division in APC, Akwa Ibom Chapter and therefore enjoins every Stakeholder and party faithful to operate within the confines of the party Constitution and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the course of their engagements in whatever party or political activity”, they stated.
The stakeholders however commended the APC National Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led the Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni for the purposeful direction given to the party.
They also applauded the contributions of National Secretary of the Party, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe for holding forth and showing excellence in Party administration, nationally.

In attendance at the stakeholders meeting were the Party Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr Ita Udosen; Group Capt Sam Enwang Retd.; Sen. John James Akpanudoedeghe; NDDC Interim Sole Administrator, Mr. Effiong Akwa; Sen Ita Enang; Obong Umana Okon Umana; Lady Dora Ebong and  Arch Bishop Samuel Akpan among others.
