Seasonal Farming: Bauchi Releases N300 Million For Fertilizer Production

With the approach of the rainy season, the sum of N300 million has been released by the Bauchi State Government for the production of adequate fertilizer to meet the needs of farmers to boost food production in the state.

Disclosing the release of the funds, the state Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga said the scheme is aimed at eliminating all hindrances to availability of the commodity to peasant farmers across the state. 

He was speaking Wednesday while declaring opened a 5-day training workshop for staff of the State Agricultural Supply Company (BASAC) organized in conjunction with Namus Agric Consult Nigeria Ltd.

Pharmacist Sama’ila Burga recalled that BASAC was established in 1981 by the Bauchi state government to provide succor to plight of farmers and enhance food security for the state 

He explained that the company is poised to ensure that farmers got quality farm inputs in order to boost production, stressing that BASAC has over the years creditably performed as attested to in the farmers’ yearly produce.

Burga said, “in order to ensure that the farmers got fertilizer without hitches, the government has released the sum of N300m to BASAC as a revolving scheme to procure the commodity from the State Fertilizers Blending.

The commissioner therefore urged the participants to pay attention to the training in order to be able to serve the people better as, according to him, effective service delivery will attract patronage from the farmers. BASAC General Manager, Engineer Ishaq Isah has in a welcome address, said that the company is all out in ensuring that farmers in the state got quality service in order to boost produce production. 
For effective service delivery, the commissioner said, BASAC has 3 Zonal offices and sales outlets across the state where its services can be accessed by the farmers especially the peasants who do not have the financial backing to make bulk purchases. 

He commended the state government for supporting the company in its determination to improve agricultural production in the state, saying people `12are collaborating with the company to boost their businesses.
