Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Egbuka has ordered the immediate removal and detaintion of the Divisional Police Officer, DSP Solomon Machu, in charge of Bassa Local Government Area, over an alleged extra-juficial kiiling of two herders.
The DPO was said to have shot dead one Musa Giwa 24 and 30 year old Ibrahim Sa’idu, after they were arrested and safely handed to him alive by men of the local vigilante at Dogon Daji village, on Sunday night.
According to the Ardo of Dogon Daji, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad, the two herders one a Fulani and another a Ganawuri, went in search of one missing cow belonging to their brother, when the local vigilante arrested and handed them to the DPO.
“Others have returned home after seeing the missing cow, Ibrahim Sa’idu, and Musa Giwa, did not return.
“I called the village head of Dogon Daji, Mr. Musa Garba Asibayi, and told him to help us find out whether they were around their areas, the village head latter called back to inform me that they were arrested and safely handed over to the DPO,” he said.
He said “on Monday morning, their corpses were sighted by the road side, with gun shots on there heads”.
The parents of the two innocent herders allegedly killed by the DPO, said they are demanding for his prosecution for justice to prevail.
Mr. Giwa Mangai, father of Musa Giwa, said he was saddened by the murder of his son, urging for justice from the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police.
Similarly, Adamu Idris, father to late Ibrahim Saidu, expressed dismay over the killings saying; “it was unfortunate that an authority like the police officer will kill innocent persons.
“I am urging the government to as a matter of urgency, prosecute and punish the DPO for killing our children just like that,” he prayed.
The State Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders, Association of Nigeria( MACBAN), Malam Nura Abdullahi, said the DPO committed brutality on his members.
“To my greatest surprise it happened by the DPO, one DSP Solomon Machu. In a round table conversation at the state headquarters of police, he confessed that he was the killer of those two young boys,” he asserted.
Malam Abdullahi, said the deceased did not resist arrest, they never possessed any dangerous weapons to warrant their brutal and barbaric killings.
He commneded the Commissioner of Police, for his concerns, having thoroughly investigated, removed and detained the DPO.
“We are looking for justice, he should be arraigned before a competent court and we are asking for compensation,” he demanded.
The police spokesman, ASP Ubah Ogaba., has confirmed the incident”
The Police have Thursday, handed over the two dead bodies, from the mortuary of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, for onward burial.
