The Senate Committee on Aviation is to propose for the upgrading the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria to a degree awarding institution.
Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Smart Adeyemi disclosed this while answering questions from journalists in Zaria during their oversight visit to the college.
He said that NCAT has all the required facilities, manpower and equipment that will justify their proposal for the upgrading of the college .
Senator Adeyemi said the bill on NCAT has passed the second reading and immediately, they will push their proposal for the upgrading to a university.
According to him, NCAT is good enough to become a University because it has well skilled personnel that will take care of the upgrading if approved.
The committee chairman said they are hoping Nigeria will be the first to have university of Aviation in Africa, considering NCAT’s years of service to the aviation industry.
“Supremely, some equipment at NCAT are over 50 years, but still are very functional and will maintain their standards,” he added.
The Senate Committee chairman said NCAT is lucky to have effective management and called on other agencies and parastatals to emulate the management’s style of leadership and maintenance culture.
Earlier in his address, the Rector Nigerian Collage of Aviation Technology, Captain Abdussalami Mohammed appealed to the committee to look into the bill on the upgrading of NCAT that is before the National Assembly.
Captain Abdussalami also said the collage is working towards meeting all the global aviation standards that will make it to be a leading manpower producing institution in Africa.
The Rector also appealed for timely release of funds with the view to maintaining its training standards.
