The  Senate  Committee on  Aviation is to  propose  for  the  upgrading  the  Nigerian College of  Aviation Technology (NCAT)   Zaria  to a   degree  awarding institution.

Chairman  Senate  Committee  on  Aviation,  Senator  Smart  Adeyemi    disclosed this  while  answering  questions  from journalists in Zaria  during  their  oversight  visit  to the  college.

He  said that NCAT has all the   required facilities,  manpower  and  equipment  that  will  justify their  proposal  for  the  upgrading  of the  college .

Senator  Adeyemi  said the    bill  on  NCAT has   passed the  second  reading  and  immediately, they will  push  their  proposal  for the  upgrading to a university.

According  to him, NCAT  is  good  enough to  become a   University  because  it  has   well  skilled  personnel  that  will   take care  of the  upgrading  if  approved.

The  committee  chairman  said they  are   hoping  Nigeria    will  be the  first  to have  university of  Aviation  in Africa, considering NCAT’s years  of  service  to the  aviation industry.

“Supremely, some  equipment  at NCAT  are  over  50 years, but  still  are  very  functional  and  will  maintain  their  standards,” he added.

The  Senate  Committee  chairman  said  NCAT  is lucky to  have  effective  management  and  called  on  other  agencies  and  parastatals  to  emulate the  management’s  style  of  leadership  and  maintenance  culture.

Earlier  in his address, the  Rector  Nigerian Collage  of  Aviation Technology,  Captain Abdussalami   Mohammed  appealed  to the  committee  to look into the  bill  on the  upgrading of NCAT  that  is  before  the  National  Assembly.

Captain Abdussalami  also  said the  collage  is  working  towards  meeting  all the   global  aviation standards  that  will  make it  to be  a  leading  manpower producing institution in Africa.
