The management of the Federal University of Gusau (FUG) has debunked the story on social media that there was bandits attack at the university’s campus on Thursday evening as fake and misleading.
A statement by the university’s Information Officer, Malam Umar Usman said the social media story about the bandits attack was false.
“The Federal University Gusau wishes to inform the general public that the story going round in the social media that bandits have raided the University campus located along Gusau – Funtua Road on Thursday, 4th March, 2021 is not true in its totality.
Usman said the incident might have occurred as a result of panic by the students arising from the kidnap of the GGSS Jangebe girls and other related issues of insecurity in the state.
“When the students sighted some Fulani men returning from a ceremony.
“Students got frightened and scampered for safety.
“The University therefore condemns in totality how people are eager to circulate news without making any effort for its authentication from the concerned authorities.
“The Management also cautions staff and students against forwarding social media messages as received without proper scrutiny.
“The general public is therefore advised to disregard the story as it is totally untrue and misleading,” he said.
The Information Officer added the since the establishment of the university since in 2013 has never recorded any security threat.
“Staff and students are also urged to remain calm and continue with their normal activities,” he said.
