Ear Care Centre Wants Kaduna Assembly’ To Make Screening For New Born Babies Compulsory

The National Ear Care Centre has called on the Kaduna State House of Assembly to help in reducing the cases of loss of hearing by making laws that will make it mandatory for all new born babies within the state to undergo screening.

MD National Ear Care Centre, Dr. Mustapha Abubakar expressed this while fielding questions from newsmen after he led the management tram.on an advocacy visit to Kaduna Assembly’ on Thursday March 4.

“We expect the state to put in certain policies and laws especially compulsory screening for new born babies and children before they enrol in school and people working in noisy areas. We also want policies in our recreational areas, that will limit the sounds because they affect hearing

“There are certain policies regarding recreational activities, noise pollution and vaccination we want to.present to State Assembly.

“We Also want to appeal to them to.allocate more funds to the.health sector. ” he said.

Speaking further, Dr. Abubakar also seeks policies that will make immunization against others that may lead to hearing loss like worms.

He explained that such precautionary measures are important to reduce the rising number of people suffering loss of hearing worldwide.

“It has been found that 1.5bn people in the world are afflicted with hearing loss,” he lamented.

Responding when he was visited in his office, the Deputy Speaker of Kaduna State, Right Honourable Isaac Auta said that Kaduna is lucky to have the National Ear Care center located in the state.

He praised the Medical Director for his commitment towards uplifting the centre.
