The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara State Council on Monday announced a minor shift by naming the Vice Chairman, Comrade Bello Muhammad Boko as the acting chairman of the council.
A statement signed by the council’s Assistant Secretary, Nasiru Shehu Aula Dabbakal said the action become necessary in order not to create vacuum.
“The Zamfara State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) wishes to inform the general public that following the recent transfer of the council chairman, Comrade Abdulrazak Bello Kaura from Pride FM, Gusau, Zamfara state to Royal FM, Sokoto in Sokoto state, it became necessary to effect constitutional adjustments to avoid any vacuum.
It is hereby notified that the Vice-chairman, Comrade Bello Muhammad Boko will serve as acting chairman pending a by-election that will bring in a new and substantive chairman.
“The National Secretariat of the NUJ has been duly notified on this development.
“The union wishes to assure the good people of Zamfara of a cordial working relationship .
“The union also wishes to reiterate its appreciation to our caring governor, Hon. Bello Matawallen Maradun Shatiman Sokoto for his support to our members and the union and stress that we will continue to support the Matawalle-led administration especially in the fight against armed banditry through his peace accord and dialogue initiative,” he said.
However, a statement personally signed by the embattled chairman, Comrade Abdulrazak Bello Kaura in a shift reaction described the statement by the assistant secretary as fake, misleading and mischievous.
He said the claim that he has been transferred to Sokoto was just to cause confusion and therefore called on the members and the general public to disregard it.
“I therefore wish to state categorically that I have neither been transferred out of Zamfara State not abdicated my responsibilities as the constitutionally elected Chairman of the NUJ in Zamfara State.
“Already, those behind this internal insurrection have been reported to the National Secretariat and the full weight of the Union’s constitution will descend on them accordingly,” he said.
