The Management, players, and the entire staff of Akwa United Football Club have expressed sympathy to Wikki Tourists Football Club over the fire incident which gutted their team bus last week Thursday on their way to Uyo for NPFL Matchday 11 game against Dakkada FC.
The Club in a statement in Uyo, signed by its Media Officer, Mr. Mfon Patrick said that both players and management were deeply touched by the tragedy and prayed God against recurrence.
“Tragic as the case maybe, we in Akwa United feel so relieved that no life was lost. No amount of money, valuables or possession can compare to the loss of a human life; hence our thanks to the Almighty God for this.
“This incident once more raises the need to put a machinery in place to guarantee the comfort and safety of football teams as they Criss cross this country to meet up their match schedules, week in, week out” the statement read.
Praying for God’s providence upon the team, the statement further added, “While praying against the re-occurrence of similar incidents, our prayers and thoughts are with the Management, Staff and Players of Wikki Tourists FC as they grapple with the trauma of the incident with a view of getting back into the business of the league, in a sound mind”.
Meanwhile, the Akwa United boys are battle ready, body and soul for a win against Plateau United at the Nest of Champions, Uyo this Saturday.
