A news streaming from Kagara in Niger State said armed bandits have struck at the Government Science Secondary School, Kagara in the early hours of Wednesday.
Kagara is the headquarters of Rafi Council Area of Niger State which is one of the councils where armed bandits have turned into frequent attacks, killings, kidnapping and destruction of homes of their unfortunate victims.
Reports said the attack at the school came in the wee hours of the night according to sources in Kagara town.
The attackers first struck at the Staff Quarters of the school before they moved on to the students’ hostel.
Some of the attackers according to sources, were dressed as students but were soon discovered to be fully armed as they descended on their targets even as pandemonium spread when hues, wailings and cries rented the school environment.
The bandits extended their forays into the heart of the school as they moved to the students’ hostel where several students were said to have been abducted by the attackers.
Though our sources could not say how many people were abducted, reports suggested that one person was shot dead by the bandits.
An insider source from the school sent an SOS to our correspondent in the early hours where he gave updates on the development.
By 8:30 am on Wednesday, the school authority, some local government personnel, security agencies and the leadership of the emirate were on ground in the school as headcount was being undertaken to ascertain the number of students missing.
Our source explained that the bandits had entered school at about 2:00am and moved to the staff Quarters where they abducted some of the staff.
“They started their operations from the Staff Quarters and moved to the students hostels. In one house, the bandits took away a staff member and his wife. Six other staffers including another woman were taken away by the rampaging bandits as they moved to the students hostel” explained our source.
At the time of filing this report, the state government was yet to respond to the latest attack by the bandits.
